Ziana (clindamycin and tretinoin)

Ziana is a prescription strength acne treatment. Ziana combines two active ingredients to treat acne, clindamycin and tretinoin.

Clindamycin is an antibiotic that kills the acne-causing bacteria, p.acnes. Tretinoin is a topical retinoid used for the treament of a variety of skin conditions. Tretinoin reduces the amount of oil (sebum) produced by the sebaceious glands in your skin, and helps to prevent the pores from becoming clogged.

How to Use Ziana

Use Ziana exactly as directed by your doctor.

Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Using more medicine or applying it more often than prescribed will not make it work any faster, and may increase side effects.

  • Wash your face with a mild soap or cleanser and pat the skin dry with a clean towel.
  • Use only a pea-sized amount of Ziana. Apply to your entire face every night at bedtime.
  • Do not wash your face more than 3 times daily while using Ziana. Washing more often or scrubbing your face when you wash it can make your acne worse.
  • Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, mouth, or nose (or in the creases of your nose), or on your lips. If it does get into any of these areas, wash with water. Do not apply this medicine to sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin. Use this medication for as many days as it has been prescribed for you even if you think it is not working.
  • Be patient. It can take several weeks of daily use to see results.

Call your doctor if skin irritation becomes severe or if your acne does not improve after several weeks of using this medicine.
