RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME (RLS)

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder that causes unpleasant sensations and an uncontrollable urge to move the legs when the person is at rest. Other symptoms include sensations of burning, creeping, or tugging in the legs. People with RLS tend to experience symptoms most often at night, so the disorder can lead to symptoms of sleep deprivation (exhaustion, daytime fatigue, and memory problems) if left untreated.

Symptoms are generally different in severity and duration from person to person and can begin at any age.

Treatment focuses on symptom prevention (such as through lifestyle changes like avoiding caffeine) but may also include medications.

Please refer to our educational resources to learn more about RLS.
