Differin (adapalene) Gel, 0.1%

Differin® (adapalene) Gel, 0.1% is used for the treatment of acne. It is available by prescription only.

Differin® Gel works by treating the underlying cause of acne. Tt shrinks and unclogs the pores (comedones) and reduces the production of sebum, the oil secreted by the sebaceous glands.

Adapalene, the active ingredient of Differin®, is a topical retinoid. Topical retinoids are prescribed for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions, and have become a standard of therapy for acne treatment. They are prescribed to bring mild and moderate acne under control and to provide long-term maintenance of clear skin.

Differin® Gel may be used alone or in combination with other acne medications, such as benzoyl peroxide or antibiotics.

Differin® Gel can irritate the skin and increase sun sensitivity so it is important to use sun protection while using Differin® Gel.

You may notice that more acne lesions start to appear during the first few weeks of treatment with Differin®. The medication is hard at work keeping new acne lesions from forming, while the existing lesions come to the surface. Continue to use Differin® Gel even if your acne initially worsens or you do not see much improvement for the first few weeks.

It may take 8-12 weeks or longer before you see the full benefit of treatment with Differin® Gel.

Take Differin® Gel as directed by your doctor.
