How to Choose and Properly Apply Sunblock / Sunscreen
1. Choose a “broad-spectrum” sunblock or sunscreen that protects against both UVB and UVA rays.
2. Use a minimum SPF 15 which protects over 93% of harmful UVB rays.
3. They key to adequate protection is applying the correct amount of sunblock or sunscreen and reapplying every 2-4 hours during daylight … even on cloudy days! That means at least THREE to FOUR times a day if outdoors or even in your car. On typical day apply sunblock or sunscreen at least at 7:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
4. Sunblock / sunscreen is a drug that requires the proper dose to obtain full effect. For example, you would not expect a baby aspirin to eliminate your backache so don’t expect your sunscreen or sunblock to work unless you apply if correctly.
5. Make daily application of sunscreen or sunblock a healthy habit like brushing your teeth or applying deodorant.
How Much Do I Need to Use?
The “teaspoon rule” can help you understand how much cream to apply.
Note: A teaspoon is about the size of a Hershey’s Kiss.

It takes about 6 teaspoons of sunblock or sunscreen to cover the entire body once! That is equal to 1 ounce or one shot glass full! So if you and your friend are at the beach for 6 hours, you will each use 2 oz, so a 4 oz. bottle should be EMPTY at the end of the day!
By using adequate solar protection you can enjoy being in daylight while limiting your exposure to the sun’s harmful nuclear rays. If you are having a cosmetic procedure we may have given you this information so the results of your procedure will be longer lasting. And remember, daily use of sunblock or sunscreen has a powerful anti-aging benefit!
